Manitou Springs Carnivale Parade is Feb. 2 – Faces in
the Crowd!
The Carnivale Parade, Manitou’s annual Mardi Gras-style
celebration of art, great food and good times, is once
again putting out the call for festival goers to parade
down Manitou Avenue. Individuals, groups, musicians
singly or in groups – just about anything in any way
entertaining and non-motorized – are encouraged to show
up and show off. Giant puppets, many-peopled snakes and
dragons, highly individualized costumes, human-powered
floats defying description and much, much more typically
wind their way along the Avenue from Memorial Park to
Soda Springs Park.
This year’s Carnivale Parade will be Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
The theme for the 2008 Carnivale Parade is “Faces in the
Crowd.”
The rules for the Parade continue to be few and
sensible. Those wishing to march, singly or in groups,
need only show up in Memorial Park before 12:30 p.m. in
costume. Musical instruments are welcome, as are bands
and human and animal powered floats. No motorized
vehicles are allowed and participants are cautioned that
any illegal activities will result in a citation from
the Manitou police. Open containers of alcohol are
against the law. The Parade is family-friendly.
All are invited, just dress up and show up at Memorial
Park by 12:30 p.m. the day of the Parade.
Those wishing to inquire about volunteer opportunities
for Carnivale should call 685-9127.
Manitou’s Economic Development Council will once again
sponsor a free shuttle service from selected Manitou
lodging establishments to downtown and back . Special
lodging packages are available. The shuttle service will
run until no longer needed during the hours before and
following the Parade. For information about the shuttle
service and lodging packages for Carnivale, call
685-9127.
The Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-Off will once again precede
the Parade and will be held in Soda Springs Park, with
public tastings – two for a buck – beginning at 11 a.m.
For Gumbo Cook-Off information and rules, call the
Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce, 685-5089.
For Carnivale information, call 685-9127 or write to
